| Why
we listen first, take action later.
A poor beggar was facing a life crisis. In a determined
act of courage, he decided he needed to pray for help.
When
he arrived at the holy place, he realized he didn’t
own proper clothes for entering such a special place.
As he picked up the prayer book, he felt even more overwhelmed
since he couldn’t read, and had never learned
the prayers. He was completely flummoxed – how
would he communicate with God?
Knowing he had only a few moments to make his “elevator
pitch” he closed his eyes and began to simply
recite the alphabet over and over. The minister, seeing
the beggar reciting the alphabet, thought he was drunk,
and had him thrown out.
But
God was listening to the beggar’s prayer, and
He gathered the letters, assembled the words and made
the sentences. And then God answered the beggar’s
plea.
At

be God, but we do have an innate gift for listening
to the intent of our clients. Defining the intent –
the desired result -- is often the most difficult challenge.
